Operating as an after school program in a small group of Boston Public High Schools, STEP creates opportunities for students to connect with professionals.  By facilitating short informational tours to a wide variety of workplace environments, STEP exposes high school students to the opportunities that await them, allowing them to see the relevance of continuing their education.

Through the STEP program, students develop the skills required to initiate and develop professional relationships while helping them to explore career paths they never knew existed.

STEP operates from September-December and February-May.  Students are required to commit, prepare and follow through with program requirements and skill development including a minimum of 3 tours each semester, including a tour at a company in which they have little immediate interest.

Students speak about STEP:

“I have learned how to get out of my comfort zone.”

“I have learned that while it is good to have a career in mind, you shouldn’t be closed minded.”

“I learned that the most uninteresting sounding jobs could be something you could be really excited about after going on the tour.”
